It is situated in the central east part of the city, close to the Hamilton General Hospital and on a bus route. Our home offers a safe and secure environment with a fully enclosed patio.

Our Home

Victoria Gardens is a fully accredited, non-smoking long term care facility, that is home to 76 residents. The facility is a three storey building, with dining rooms and lounges on each floor. It is situated in the central east part of the city, close to hospitals, parks, and a bustling downtown. Our home offers outdoor space for residents to enjoy on our fully enclosed patio. It is fully air conditioned, equipped with a sprinkler system and provides whirlpool tubs and electric chair lifts on each floor.

Our Rooms

Victoria Gardens offers three types of accommodation: private, semi-private and basic. Our basic rooms have two beds only, but share their two piece washroom with the 2-bed room which adjoins them. All rooms are furnished with an electric bed, bedside table, and wardrobe closet. Semi-private and Private rooms are equipped with a two piece ensuite washroom.

Note: We do NOT have any 4-bed rooms.

Residents are encouraged to bring in a favourite chair, lamp, plants, and pictures to make their room more personal and comfortable. Arrangements can be made to share a room with a spouse or family member.

Telephone or Cable

Victoria Gardens provides televisions in resident lounges, however, if residents prefer to have their own television in their room, they may have cable installed. Should daily telephone calls be part of the resident’s routine, a private line may be installed. All rooms have cable and telephone connections, but these services must be activated and paid for by the family if they choose these services.

The Home does have a general Wifi network. If residents or family feel that the wifi is not stable, or wish to have a stronger signal, they may arrange and purchase a plan for dedicated internet or data from a provider.

If residents or family wish to make arrangements, subscriptions such as magazines or newspapers may be delivered to the Home, and once received, will be directed to the resident.

Safety & Security

Safety Devices

All residents have a right to be self-determining. Risks are a part of life, and as such, individuals may choose to move about independently and encounter a reasonable amount of risk, rather than be restrained. Safety devices such as seat belts may be used, if authorized by the family and the physician.

Building Security

All exterior doors are alarmed and locked to prevent unauthorized entry or exit for the security of our residents. Coded key pads are used for the elevator and to access and leave the building. In an emergency, use the stairways as directed. All doors will automatically unlock when the fire alarm is activated.

Emergency Plan

The Plan is tested on a regular basis and fire drills are conducted each month. Fire exits are clearly indicated.

Call Bells

Resident rooms, bathrooms and common areas such as lounges, are equipped with conveniently located call bells which are activated at the Nursing hubs.

The Home cannot accept responsibility for Residents’ personal belongings or valuables. Jewellery and large sums of money are best kept with the family.

Our Team

Our team are committed to excellence and strive to provide personalized care for each resident. Staff receive regular training on topics such as falls prevention training, customer service, resident abuse prevention, and resident bill of rights. Staff are encouraged to to attend education and training courses to enhance and maintain their skills and knowledge.

Land Acknowledgment

The City of Hamilton is situated upon the traditional territories of the Erie, Neutral, Huron-Wendat, Haudenosaunee and Mississaugas. This land is covered by the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, which was an agreement between the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabek to share and care for the resources around the Great Lakes. We further acknowledge that this land is covered by the Between the Lakes Purchase, 1792, between the Crown and the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. Today, the City of Hamilton is home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island (North America) and we recognize that we must do more to learn about the rich history of this land, so that we can better understand our roles as residents, neighbours, partners and caretakers.
